Māori perspectives: Māori data sovereignty is important when protecting Māori information online. Māori data includes information about Māori people, language, culture, resources and environments. Māori data sovereignty means Māori have rights and interests in how their data is collected, owned and used. Māori data governance also means Māori should have control over how their data is managed and protected. Therefore, cybersecurity organisations should involve Māori communities when making decisions about Māori data and ensure that their information is securely protected.

The strategy helps organisations understand that cyber threats are constantly changing and becoming more advanced. It encourages organisations to protect their sensitive information and networks. Organisations also need to be prepared to detect, respond to and recover from cyber attacks. This helps businesses reduce financial loss, damage to their reputation, loss of information and disruption to important services.
